Abstract

The research has discovered on developing successful business strategies that are adapted to the specific dynamics of the local market is imperative for small retailers in small towns, as they contend with fierce competition from larger retailers. This study looks at the importance of differentiation, community involvement, and strategic planning for small retailers to increase sustainability and competitiveness. In Malaysia, small businesses, wet markets, and retail merchants come together to form small supermarkets, which usually occupy 30,000 to 50,000 square feet of space. They contend with competition from larger chains and e- commerce, in spite of government policy. Strategy has been chosen as the theme. Small retailers must ensure that their business plans align with the needs and preferences of their local customer base. Qualitative research combines call-based online interviews with non- numerical data, such as text, video, or audio, to provide flexible and inductive methods for understanding small retail challenges. The theme for the business, on the other hand, is how small retailers stay in business in the face of larger competitors by navigating competition and utilising strategies like distinctive products, first-rate customer service, a strong brand identity, and technology. The implications of this study will help small retailers develop strategies that will increase their sustainability and competitiveness in the retail sector.
