Abstract

Entrepreneurship has emerged as a pivotal avenue for promoting economic independence and social inclusion among people with disabilities (PWD). However, the entrepreneurial path for people with disabilities is plagued with several hurdles, ranging from systematic discrimination to a lack of resources and financial capital. This study investigates the lived experiences of entrepreneurs with disabilities in the Kedah state, with interviews serving as the major methodological tool. The findings highlight the ubiquitous nature of constraints faced by PWD entrepreneurs, which include attitudinal, structural, and economic challenges. Despite these obstacles, the study highlights the persistence and agency demonstrated by individuals pursuing business success. Overprotective parental attitudes and cultural stigmas exacerbate the difficulties experienced by PWD entrepreneurs, limiting the autonomy and confidence of persons with disabilities. This study adds to the understanding of empowerment and agency dynamics among PWD entrepreneurs by doing a thorough data analysis. It emphasizes the significance of a collaborative strategy that includes government agencies, and companies, society organizations in developing an inclusive entrepreneurial environment. This research envisions positive social change by breaking down obstacles and creating an environment suitable to the blooming of PWD entrepreneurs, benefiting both people and communities. Finally, this study supports for specialized interventions and policy measures that address the particular requirements of PWD entrepreneurs, increasing socioeconomic empowerment and creating a more inclusive business scene.
